Description

When your trail rides include technical descents and challenging climbs, the Chronicle MIPS provides all the essential performance and protection you need in an affordable package. It drafts off the design language of our premium Montaro MIPS helmet, and offers many of our key features. Its compact shape provides deep, confident coverage, and the Roc Loc 5 fit system allows you to easily dial in fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. The Chronicle MIPS is designed for goggle compatibility, and the P.O.V. Plus visor allows you to lift the visor and place your goggles on the front of the helmet. The Coolmax padding has great wicking properties, and it’s extra plush to provide all-day comfort on the trail. The helmet was designed with MIPS, which redirects impact energy to provide more protection in certain impacts.

Well, I didn't think I'd ever be posting a "This helmet SAVED MY LIFE!" review, and before I begin, I'm still not. But, I am definitely posting a "This helmet SAVED ME FROM HAVING A REALLY REALLY BAD MONTH!" review.I bought this a mere month ago, to replace what was (and is) an okay helmet that had no issues. I honestly just wanted a helmet that looked cooler than my basic $20 one from Costco. I accepted the fact that I was going to have spend a little bit more to have a cool helmet. Once I got in the $100 price range, the MIPS system was a must have, and this helmet has it.It fits my head much better than my old helmet. Old helmet was adjustable and was not UNcomfortable, but the Chronicle seems to actually grab on to my head and very comfortably holds itself in place, whereas my old one just felt like it was sitting on top of my head. A good way to explain it is if I was doing a handstand in these helmets withOUT the chinstrap buckled, the old one would just fall off, where the Chronicle feels like it would stay of because of the way it grabs your head. I like that.Anyway, I wore it once, no issues, don't mind seeing the visor ever so slightly in my peripheral, comfortable helmet. Second time I wore it, I got to test it out. Coming down a trail at a high rate of speed (18-20 mph), and the trail bends and I ride the outer edge of the turn. Unfortunately There is a massive root with a 5" lip I can't avoid, and I hit that sucker and the bike slows way down but I don't. I fly over the bars and come down on the right side of my body, head first, and plow dirt and rocks for about 6 feet. The skewed angle of my head hitting was just what the MIPS was designed for, and while I wasn't thinking, "Wow! I can really feel the MIPS working!" at the time, I'm sure that if I had my old helmet, It would have dug in and twisted my head and neck, causing more injuries than what I ended up with. I was alone and the adrenaline kept me from feeling too much pain, and after 5 minutes or so of taking it easy I got back on my bike and finished the last 6 miles, with little effects other than anxiety whenever I went over roots. To sum it up, I am extremely glad I had this particular helmet three weeks ago. The last scabs just fell off last night, and I'm no worse for wear. The helmet did exactly what it was supposed to do, minimize injuries to my head. That, coupled with the great fit and finish of this helmet, and I'm a Giro Chronicle MIPS believer.
