These are quite waterproof. I've ridden through intense rain storms and my feet stayed completely dry. They slip over your full sized riding boots without much of an issue. I'd recommend putting your rain pants on over top of the boot covers, so water does not flow down into your boots. They are bulky enough to carry around but guarantee your feet stay dry, which can mean the difference between an enjoyable road trip, and a miserable one. Definitely not an area you want to skimp out on. They also double as a windbreaker for cold rides, keeping your feet just a few degrees warmer. These boot covers are not perfect, but are very adequate for the job at hand. A few nitpicks - they do take away feel from your foot to the road or controls (as realistically must be expected), the buckle strap has come loose completely a couple of times (leaving the buckle pieces in place together but the strap whipping around in the wind - there is nothing to prevent the strap from separating from the buckle like sewing the strap back onto itself) and the draw cord at the top did not come with the locks pictured. I had to contact the manufacturer directly about the locks - both pairs I ordered came without them. They confirmed this was an oversight in manufacturing. I also had waited 3 months for these to come back in from backorder, which happened to be during the middle of riding season. You'd think a company that produces motorcycle gear would want to have their motorcycle gear available during the middle of the season, but they certainly took their time to produce more... (other motorcycle products they make are STILL on backorder 6+ months later with riding season winding down) and I was quite annoyed when both sets I ordered had that manufacturing oversight.Overall, once I got the lock situation sorted out and I sewed the buckle strap over itself so it can no longer slide out of the buckle, I'd say these are fantastic for the job... the company needs to get its quality control and manufacturing issues sorted out though.
