We've been using a simple sock feeder for a while now, with that feeder being visited by Lesser Goldfinches, House Finches, Juncos and Pine Siskins; most of that feeding activity begins to pick up in the Fall, and continues all through the winter here in NM. It worked fine, in terms of attracting the birds, but was kind of tedious to keep it clean, and the fabric degrades in the weather over time. I was hoping to find something more durable.Ordered this one, and we had Pine Siskins and Mountain Chickadees taking Nyjer seed from it within an hour after putting it out. I hung it within 16" or so from our original sock feeder, in a Juniper tree in our yard. I didn't know if the birds would be put off of it for a while, it being the new 'strange object' in the tree. No worries at all, though, as some of our regular guests were taking seed from the new feeder as if it'd always been there. The birds seem to like it, so I like it. And for the price, which closely compares to the plastic, flimsy-looking versions found in the big-box stores, it's a great buy as well, for something built entirely in sturdy steel.
