I did take off the strap and just lean up against the backrest. Over time, my back pain decreased significantly after more than a year of intense pain.The lumbar support does not stay in the same place. It is good if you want to avoid spending hundreds of dollars on a good chair with a great lumbar support but at the same time don't want to screw your back; otherwise, I am not very satisfied. I've to keep adjusting the support every 15-20 minutes and since am training myself to avoid sitting continuously I don't mind, but otherwise it is a bit cumbersome.There isn't anything wrong with this product other than it is not at all suited for use in an automobile seat (which is what I need). The pad is so large that it actually created more pain, not less. While I am sure it works perfectly for an office setting, I would not recommend it for automotive applications at all.Great back support.It's average. Very very firm. The straps do not hold it in place so I have to raise it up each time i sit down. Will keep an eye out to see if I can find anything better.Very comfortable. Doesn't stay put as well as I hoped thought. Keep tightening straps but they loosed over time.It fit perfect on my office chair. (I added photos) My chair is fairly large. I can move it up and down easily if I need to apply pressure anywhere specific. One of the most reasonably prices ones. Not only did part of the plastic clip break (the clips hold the belt onto the back support) when I was taking this product out of the package but the strap is horrible at keeping this pad in place on my chair. Also, this back support made my back hurt worse after using it at work. I tried it for two days and I can't stand it anymore. Something softer that actually stays in place would probably be better.
