Well made and warm. Love that it has MIPS for safety. Looks good too.Bought for my wife and she used it recently in Steamboat - in cold, high winds and in unseasonable spring-like conditions. Wife is happy with fit, warmth, ventilation and color. I'm happy that she's got the latest protection tech in her helmet.Have not used it yet but looks great!Great helmet. Great price!Chin strap adjustment/Goggle retentionI like Smith products a lot. This helmet is very good. I use it for snow sports, including skiing. And also for paragliding. The fact that you can adjust vents so it is either a really free breathing machine, or closed up to keep you warm is excellent. I like the small lid or cap on the front. It probably does a little about the sun, and makes helmet wearing a little less geeky for me. The mat black finish is great.I have two problems that I think are significant. The first is the chin strap. It 1. keeps loosening up 2. is hard to adjust when loose. This is pretty annoying. I have this vague bad feeling every time I, loosely, strap it on, well I hope the fact it is a bit loose doesn't come back to bite me in a really bad way. Usually, I am all geared up, usually including my gloves, and the last think I want to screw with is this chin strap adjustment. Because it is also not easy. I have used helmets my whole life, in a bunch of different sports. C'mon Smith, it does not need to be this freaking hard to adjust the strap. Just go back to the adjustment common on motorcycle helmets. God it's annoying. And again, it wouldn't be so annoying, but the thing then comes loose again. Wait until you see the over engineered mess that they have for adjusting the chinstrap and keeping it tight. And then when you realize it does neither well. Fail.Goggle retention: Great, it looks like a great way to keep your goggles organized when you are on the lift, or paying for your lift ticket but not skiing yet, etc. Wrong. Sure you will not lose your goggles. They are somewhat locked onto your helmet. But you are going to have to screw with adjusting your goggle strap each time you either want wear them on your face, or rest them on the helmet. Your strap is either going to have to be pretty loose, to fit resting on your helmet. Or if it is tight enough to rest on your face properly, I found that was too tight to rest on the helmet. And adjusting that strap is not fun or easy with big ski gloves. It's a great company I feel. And a very good product. But after spending, at least $150, maybe more? I felt like I was going to have a really well sorted out piece of equipment. And I don't feel that way. I feel like my last thought before my concussion is going to be "Fxck, I knew I should have tightened down that chin strap...again!"My husband bought this as part of his compliment of equipment needed to feed his new obsession with snowboarding. He says: "The fit is great - I hardly realize I have it on, but at the same time it's very warm with the vents closed (no beanie needed underneath) and allows for nice cooling with the vents open. The airflow around the goggles is perfect to prevent fogging, and I am not even pairing this helmet with Smith goggles (I'm using Dragon APX). The fit is ideal, and the BOA adjustments make fine-tuning easy. Chin straps can be uncomfortable, but this one is easy to adjust and has a comfortable layer to prevent chafing. I took one hard fall so far this season and hit the back of my head on some hard snow, and didn't even feel it, but I'm sure I would have if I weren't wearing this helmet!"I am desperately looking for a Smith Variance in size large in any color that’s not white or red and almost bought this until saved it in my cart. It saves under the the women’s Valence. I then looked closely at the pic and it’s a black pearl, women’s valence, in large. So disappointed
