Once assembled this stand does exactly what it is supposed to: raise the bottom drawer of the flat file cabinet by a comfortable 20". In addition, it puts the top surface of their 5-drawer file at about the height of a counter-height desk or table, so it adds a lot of important surface area to a drawing table, for example. But the gauge of the steel panels that form the bottom and back is pretty light, and it dents and bends easily, especially in shipping. The panels of the first stand I ordered arrived so bent that I couldn't assemble the unit. The replacement was usuable, but also suffered dings and damaged edges, most of which became invisible after assembly. Still, the factory packing was very flimsy for a large, relatively heavy, steel object. I don't see how it would make it through UPS without being damaged. Amazon's return policy saved the day - I had the replacement within a few days - but don't be in a hurry to get it right.
