I gave it 1 star because the first of the 2 bookcases arrived without damage. I haven't opened up the second one yet. Please DO NOT buy this bookcase!!! It took me about 6 hours to assemble because the instructions might as well be written in Chinese!!! I think a 2 year old drew the diagrams. Just pictures...nothing in writing to explain how to assemble it! None of the parts are numbered or labeled. I have assembled furniture for all of my 66 years and have NEVER found anything as difficult as this item!!! Also, very few of the holes lined up correctly and so it looks pretty bad now that it's assembled. I really tried hard to make things fit, but there isn't much I could do to make things line up correctly. Someone owes me at least a partial refund but I know that's not going to happen. When you buy something from Ikea the holes ALWAYS line up correctly. Whoever designed this bookcase could learn a lot from Ikea!!! Also, once assembled and stood up, the bookcase is NOT rigid...it can be twisted back and forth, so it must be placed on a perfectly level and flat surface to keep it from twisting in the wind! If you look at it from about 20 feet away, it looks fairly good...just don't take a close look at it, especially if you like things to be perfect. Also, make sure you have plenty of tools because it takes a boatload of tools to assemble this item. If you are looking to buy a metal bookcase, please stay away from this one!!! I would NEVER have bought 2 of these if I knew they would be so difficult to assemble because of such poor quality control on the part of the manufacturer.Once again...DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM!!!!!
