Not very big, fits in the palm of your hand. The best comparison I can make is maybe a softball.Our family split my mother's ashes between us all so there was not very much in quantity for each of us - I wanted something simple in small with that in mind and this fit the bill. I would've been willing to pay twice as much for this but it was fairly priced and the wood looks good in person, very smooth and shiny.It is not insulated inside which is my only concern. Most ashes come in a bag anyway so it's not a big deal but a more quality one might be a good idea down the road. One could always glue the lid shut on this too, if you wanted. Overall this is a nice, simple urn for your loved ones that does not look cheap in person
