As other reviews have mentioned, the instructions are pretty much worthless. The product is good quality; they even include an extra faceplate; I assume this is in case you punch out the wrong directional arrow. This product can be mounted against the wall or undermounted to the ceiling. There are 3 connection wires inside: white (common), black (110v) and red (high voltage). For standard installations (always flip your breaker off first!), gently remove the front and rear panel. Cap off the red wire (wire nuts are provided), and route the black and white wires up through the undermount clip, or through the 'ready to punch' holes in the back panel. After you connect them to power, there are two small wires attached to a small square clip coming from the battery; look carefully, and you will see a small recepticle for the clip inside the bottom corner of the unit. push firmly in place; don't be surprised, the red LED's will come on at this time.Connect the front and back panels, (screw the back panel to the wall if you are wall mounting first), secure the mounts and flip your breaker back on. The red LED's will be working from the start; to test the lights, press and hold the button on the bottom side of the unit. It will probably need a day to charge before you test by shutting the power off...If you can wire an outlet or a light switch, you should be able to do this install; if not, it shouldn't take an electrician more than 10-15 minutes from start to finish, if the outlet boxes are wired and ready to go.A lot more compact than the old one I replaced that required a large lead battery and the bulbs did not last long. I just capped off the red wire and did not use it. Wired it up, mounted it to the wall box and connected the battery plug once the power was on. The small white battery plug goes into the receptacle in the front lower left when the emergency lights are facing you. Two "EXIT" panels are provided as this can also be mounted to the ceiling and you can remove the back panel, snap the "EXIT" panel on to replace it and you can see it from both sides. The red leds inside that illuminate it are adequate and pushing the test button lights up the emergency lights which also appear to be adequate. Saves energy over the old replacement signs.good price, good functionality, overall pretty good.however, the instructions are absolutely terrible. in order for it to work properly, you must snap in the little battery circuit connector in the bottom, left portion of the unit before turning on the main A/C power. the instructions have no mention of this (although there are small, hard to read stickers inside the unit that point out this fact). if the battery circuit connector is not connected, the battery will never charge and the lights won't operate when the A/C power goes out.why the instructions do not clearly state this fact is a huge mystery to me. but if you're perseverant, you will figure it out and get the thing working eventually.I purchased about 6 of these to install around doors in a large warehouse. These worked really well in replacing the aging halogen bulbed units that were already there and not functioning. These light up the area really well and were easy to install. My only concern is that they are practically 100% plastic and I do not know how long they will last. But for the price if we can get 10 years out of them then I would be happy.I have other Morris emergency lights so when I saw their name on this, I purchased it. LED has brought the price of emergency lights down. The batteries are much smaller with LED. Those old, big, incandescent emergency lights cost an arm and a leg and the batteries often run about $60. I'm replacing them as they go out. I'm also putting in more emergency lights connected with exit signs because the added emergency lights don't really add much more to the price. I also want to have better lighted halls during emergencies--it might save someones life.I've purchased about 10 of these over the last year for our church building, either to replace older ones or for new classrooms. Monday we had a city wide power outage and they all lit immediately. The church was empty, but I did a walk through and all the halls and classrooms had enough light to easy evacuate if it would have happened with folks present. Totally worth the investment!Product themselves were very good and not to expensive. Only comment I would make is not very good instructions. So you better know a little about wiring. There were none really. You have go figure it out yourself. Even how to open the cover to wire it up was not explained. We've installed 8 of these so far and they seem to work well. The illumination is excellent and our local Fire Marshall was pleased when he performed his inspection. The real test will be next year when we have to perform the test again. Then we can see how well the batteries hold up in a years time and I will return and update my review.GoodVery good buy for the price , very light product aluminates very well . Easy to install .Good product
